A week in NJ and we know it's time to move on. This has been a lovely visit. We have had opportunity to visit with all of the family and with the Hymans. The only thing holding us up is the addition of Hurricane Joaquin. We have spent this morning watching the weather and trying to decide if we move on today or still wait it out. My thinking is that the storm is moving so slowly, we can wait until tomorrow and we will be faced with the same decision and confused by the same thoughts. I say go. We are going to aim to get just west and south of Harrisburg, PA today and plan to drive the Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park tomorrow. Let's see how this works out for us.
Meanwhile, as I said, this stop has been wonderful. Our great hosts, Wayne and Eileen, have allowed us to stay in their lovely home. That means we have taken complete advantage of free beer, free food, and very good conversation. The food, by the way, has been very good. I haven't weighed myself for a couple of days, but I'm guessing I reached my goal of a seven pound weight gain while here.
On Tuesday we went to Eddie and Steph's home to see Eddie, Chase and Emma, as Eddie was off from work and watching the kids. It was nice to get to spend quality time with them.
After that visit, Eileen, Weber and I went to Grounds for Sculpture on the site of the old Trenton Fairgrounds. It is a beautiful park with restaurants, indoor exhibits and lots of very nice sculptures scattered throughout the park.
The grounds are also covered with beautiful gardens.
While Wayne and Eileen worked on Wednesday, Weber and I headed back to the Angus' house, this time to see the kids with Grandma Linda while she babysat. Again, we had a nice visit, with the opportunity to get filled in on everyone's life. And, I had the chance for quality bonding with Emma.
Thursday was a great day spent with Linda and Kenny Hyman. Such great friends for 40+ years. We are always excited for the chance to spend time with them. Kenny is a great piano player, and having my guitar with me, we took the opportunity to destroy a few tunes during the afternoon.
(Wait...Weber must have photoshopped gray hair on each of us. That's BULL!)
In the evening we went to Princeton for drinks and a wonderful dinner at Agricola.
We never fail to have a good time with these great friends!
We went to see Soul Percussion perform at Princeton University, but found the performance not to our liking. We ducked out during intermission and spent more time talking and laughing over cocktails. What a day!
We began to ponder the effect of Joaquin on our departure. We had first thought we should be out Friday, but then had decided Saturday would be a better travel day. We kept an eye on the storm all day Friday and had a wonderful dinner prepared by Eileen. We decided to play it by ear and go when the going gets good. I do believe it's time. I suspect our next posting will come from some other location.
