Side trip

We are out of New Jersey. We left yesterday among some anxiety over wind and rain being generated by Hurricane Joaquin. As it turned out, no anxiety needed. I thought the wind seemed more calm than when we drove into NJand the rain was very light. We headed back across Pennsylvania, planning to head south on I-81 toward the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. As we neared Harrisburg, Weber asked if I had any desire to see Gettysburg, so here we are on a great little side trip.

We arrived around 4:00 yesterday afternoon and found a lovely campground just outside of the town and park.

We are pretty much alone here. The site is great and the people who run the place were very nice and friendly. After getting the trailer set up, we went into the town of Gettysburg to check things out.

It is a nice little town with lots of history.

Of course, there are a bunch of gift type shops. One we found, though, was quite the neat shop and we bought a couple
little things there.

We walked around enough to get thirsty and ducked into a pretty cool bar. We were surprised (and somewhat proud) to find Uinta's own Hop Nosh IPA on tap.

They had several tvs going with college football on most of them. The place was crowded and we each had a good, local beer.

This morning we visited the Gettysburg National Military Park. We did the auto tour. I wish the weather was nicer and we had more time, because I would have loved to do the tour on bike.

There are lots of monuments and historical markers along the tour, which gives a fine chronology of the battle. It was a fascinating tour, giving us the ability to picture the battlefields. And the tour went through lots of beautiful farm land and woods. I found an interesting collection of mushrooms right off the side of road. The thick forests are the biggest thing I've missed since leaving the east.

Now, it's time to close up the trailer and head to Shenandoah. That should be nice. I expect we might start to run into some serious fall foliage.
