Santa Fe or bust

Yesterday morning we left Palo Duro State Park in Texas with the day's goal of arriving in Santa Fe. We knew this would be a long drive (300+ miles), but the weather being rough overnight, we got out early (for us, that is). It was still very cloudy in the Canyon. In fact as we got out of the Canyon we could see blue skies near Amarillo, but a very low, heavy cloud cover before reaching that.

Oh, and before leaving the Amarillo area, we had to make a stop at Cadillac Ranch. What's that you ask? It's an art installation done years ago. The artist envisioned and, in fact, buried the hoods of 10 Cadillac cars in a field just off I-40 (Old Route 66).

Of course, with the heavy rains that blanketed the area the previous night, this field was muddy. In fact, the entrance to the field was a couple pieces of plywood laid in a little "stream" to try to keep you "mud free" and "dry." I only wish I had thought to get a picture of that. We decided to venture forth. Weber slipped in mud and almost went down. I would have photographed that! But you can see that the cars are in quite the puddle.

I wanted Weber to get inside the first car as we had seen the female of the previous couple do, but, alas, she would not.

The dirt in the area is very clay-ish, and it cakes on your shoes quite readily.

We went back to the car and stood in puddles on the side of the road to try to help remove some of the caked on mud. It pretty much worked.

All in all, I think this was a worth while little adventure.
