Week One In The Can

As of this evening, Weber and I have spent one week on the road. We have logged 1,800 miles, thus far, dragging Clark behind Lewis the whole way. The trip has been fantastic. We have traveled through Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and now sit on the shore of Lake Michigan, about one third of the way up the Michigan coast, heading for the northern end of the Upper Peninsula. Tomorrow we will arrive there by noon, planning a two-night stay.

We have been places neither of us have ever been and seen things new to both of us. What a pleasure. I feel  privileged to partake of so much new at my age. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, "This retirement shit ain't bad."

Until today the weather we have experienced has been very nice--sunny days and wonderful sleeping temperatures. We hit some heavy rain today (I know the Salt Lake folks have had their share of that his week) with a little thunder and lightening. Fortunately, the rain slowed down for us to set up the trailer when we arrived at our destination today. We'll see how nicely Mother Nature treats us in the morning, when it's time to tear down and get back on the road. We have already mentally prepared ourselves for a little hiking in the rain over the weekend, as the predictions seem to call for more.

Interestingly, we have only eaten one meal out. Weber did a great job planning meals for the trip. We have breakfast in the trailer every morning before heading out, lunches tend to be snacks eaten on the road or something we take with us on a hike or bike ride and our dinners in the trailer following cocktail hour have been very good.

And, I need to add that Web and I are still acting like friends. After spending a great deal of time in either the car or our little trailer, we are still smiling, laughing, not talking divorce and neither has threatened the other with any sort of bodily harm. After 45 years, I find myself thinking that reaching 50 years together actually is a possibility...strike that...probability.

SIX MORE ADVENTUROUS WEEKS TO GO!
