There is a reason for everything

Today Weber and I left the Cleveland area with Altoona, PA in our sights. We had only one reason for making this our target:

I discovered this place by accident when I was checking on the oldest bar in Indiana--The Knickerbocker Saloon--and could not remember if it was "saloon" or "tavern." Luckily, I picked tavern in error and decided Altoona could nicely fit into our trip to the east coast.

This was a great stop. We went in this evening for beers and dinner. Of course, pictures were in order. And, of course, unusual beers were necessary.

Weber had a pumpkin beer, which was rimmed with sugar and cinnamon. I tasted it and with great surprise, this became my choice for my second beer, after drinking a nitro IPA.

We drank tap beers, but I would say their coolers were pretty well stocked with a wide variety.

We had a wonderful waitress who spent time speaking with us. From her we learned that the Tavern and the couple blocks of row houses around were built by the Knickerbocker Construction Company out of Philadelphia some time ago. The row houses reminded me of those in which my grandparents lived in Philadelphia, so I had snapped this photo across the street after parking our car.

The food was good, as well. I thought it would be when I saw the use the menues had gotten. This is the cover of my menu.

This was quite the nice stop on our way to NJ. We will be there tomorrow to spend time with Wayne and Eileen, Chip and Colleen and other members of the Weber clan.
