The Ridge Yurt

Easter weekend, Rich and I went on a snowshoe hike to a yurt in the Uintas with a group of friends. I can quite honestly say this was the most physically challenging thing I have ever done. It was 5 miles (6 hours) of snowshoeing to the yurt. I didn't whine once!! It was a very compatible group of people and dogs. We had 3 dogs (2 pit bulls and 1 lab mix) along on the trip. I'll admit I was not sure about having 3 dogs along, but they were great. Rich and I even had one of the pit bulls (Rae) share our double bunk on Saturday night.

An absolutely beautiful day to hike in.

Still smiling - only because I thought we must have already hiked 4 miles, when it was probably only 1 mile.

After our sunset hike, Rich, Jocelyn and Kelli all decided it would be easier to roll down rather than hike.

We had a great weekend. This is a trip I will never forget, including:
Hiking down to the outhouse in the middle of the night in 10 inches of fresh powder
Having 3 days of amazing clear blue skies, and fresh snow every night
Keeping the fire blazing in the stove
3 very very friendly, well-behaved dogs, 7 very friendly, possibly not so well-behaved, people in a 20 ft. yurt
Great meals
Carrying a freakishly heavy backpack for 6 hours in and only 4 1/2 hours out
Stopping in Evanston on the way home for dinner at a restaurant that was closed, only to have the owner fire up his grill and make us amazing dinners.
No longer being a "Yurtling"
