Moab

We spent Memorial Weekend camping in Moab. This is the first time camping in Moab that we have had such cool (and rainy) weather. This is also the first time that we didn't go into Arches. Who knew there was so many other great things to do.

Trying to set up camp and beat the rain storm just exhausted Rich...

On Saturday, we hiked to Fisher Towers....very dramatic. It was about a 4 hour hike and we finished about 15 minutes ahead of a major rain storm.

On Sunday (beautiful, sunny day), we hiked to Morning Glory Bridge. It was a great day for hiking...sunny, but only in the 70's...perfect weather (until it rained again in the evening.

On our way out of town, we took this very long, high, winding, narrow dirt road to Gemini Bridge.

Gemini Bridge...really cool natural stone bridge which can only be accessed via a very long dirt road.

Gemini Bridge - Rich always tries to freak me out by getting too close to the edge.

It's been a long time since we've experienced so much rain, thunder and lighting. There was even a flash flood in the creek just behind (and below) our campsite. It was a great weekend....even with all the rain.

Just When You Think You're Finished

This past weekend I finally finished "The Big Spring Cleanup" of all the beds in our yard. It always feels so good to look around the yard and see all the freshly cleaned out beds.

Now I'm able to see all the spots where I want to add a plant or two, maybe add a little more color, maybe find a good spot for the new tomato and pepper plants.

Then I decided to walk around to the front yard. The front is where I started the spring cleanup a couple of weeks ago. YIKES!!!!! Where did those weeds come from? Oh that's right, once you get all the weeds pulled, they pop right back up again. Hmmm....this is the part I don't like about gardening. Maybe I just need to get the weeds pulled again and get some plants in the ground.

HAPPY GARDENING!!

How Many More!!???

R: "How many more rooms do we need to skimcoat?

W: "But Honey, look at how smooth and pretty those walls look in our office!"

Priming, skimcoating, sanding, priming, painting.....a lot of work....but well worth the finished product!

How Much Fun Did you have this Weekend?

We spent the weekend preparing for the installation of new carpeting. It's amazing what you discover when you rip out carpeting in a 100 year old house.

Check out the lovely linoleum.

Yes, they actually used cedar roof shingles to level the floor.

I'm thinking they just painted the floor around the area rug?

And, YES, they actually used a tin can lid to patch the living room floor.

So, ripping out carpeting wasn't enough fun. We decided to skim coat our office walls. The first step in prepping the walls is painting with an oil based primer.

Followed by several hours of applying wall board compound stuff:

Ahh, it was worth it all to be able to walk on this beautiful new plush carpeting.

Now all we need to do is sand and paint the office walls, and we will have a beautiful new office. Oh, I guess that's what we get to do next weekend.
